No compromise on law and order, emphasises Telangana Industries Minister Sridhar Babu
Hyderabad: Industries minister D Sridhar Babu emphasised that no one is above the law and the govt would not compromise on law and order. He assured that the govt would take action if there were any issues of police excesses. In response to concerns raised by BRS MLAs about false cases and police misconduct, he assured that protests by opposition parties, including their leaders, would be allowed democratically.
During the debate on home department issues in the assembly on Wednesday, BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy highlighted that police had barged into his house and falsely arrested him months ago. Despite lodging a complaint with the DGP, no action was taken against the officers involved, he said.
Another BRS MLA, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, mentioned that miscreants attacked her house during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Narsapur, but police did not act or even file a case. BJP MLA Payal Shankar said that their party leader, Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, was taken into custody outside the assembly while speaking to protesters.
Sridhar Babu said that Kaushik Reddy was charged in Karimnagar after physically attacking another MLA in an official meeting attended by him and other ministers. He assured that the issue of Sunitha Reddy would be investigated.
On Maheshwar Reddy’s issue, Sridhar Babu said that it occurred outside the assembly premises and did not fall under the purview of the assembly speaker’s privileges.
Wardhannapet MLA KR Nagaraju, who served as a sub-inspector, said that police often take leaders into preventive custody to ensure the smooth functioning of govt programmes.
