No alternative to Congress in Telangana, says TPCC chief
Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday said that the Congress' winning streak, from the Jubilee Hills bypoll to the panchayat elections and the recent municipal elections, showed there was no alternative to the party in Telangana.Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, he said Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal of the AICC would hold a comprehensive review meeting on Thursday with the CM, ministers and the TPCC president to assess the party's performance.
He said that the AICC leadership had completed reviews of 11 states, with discussions focusing on party organisation, governance and welfare initiatives. He added that more issues were likely to be discussed with the Telangana team.Goud said that the BC community was firmly backing the Congress and that the party had issued B-forms to 87% of candidates from SC, ST, BC and minority communities. He stated that the Congress had won 94 ULBs, including municipal corporations and municipalities, which he described as an indication of a positive public response to the Congress govt's development and welfare agenda. He further said that the Congress had defeated MIM candidates in five seats in Nizamabad and that ticket selection had been based on detailed surveys. He added that party veteran T Jeevan Reddy had been advised to understand the selection process. Goud said the TPCC would not interfere in cabinet matters or the expansion of the cabinet. On mayoral elections, he said corporators had voted keeping in mind the development prospects of their respective constituencies, reflecting a focus on growth-oriented leadership.
