HYDERABAD: The government on Friday appointed revenue divisional officer (Zaheerabad) Abdul Hameed as new chief executive officer of the
Telangana State
Waqf Board.
The revenue department issued a GO transferring special grade deputy collector rank officer Hameed to minorities welfare department on deputation for two years.
Earlier, a writ petition was filed in the Telangana High Court challenging
the appointment
of IPS officer Shahnawaz Qasim as CEO
Waqf board. The Waqf board was in tangles after a petitioner approached the HC. The petition stated that the appointment of Shahnawaz Qasim as in-charge
CEO
of Waqf Board wa contrary to the provisions of the Waqf Act and that its rules have been violated. “The appointment of a full-time CEO to the Waqf board will enable it to function effectively,” said a Wakf Board member.
It was stated that as per section 23(14), the appointment of CEO of Waqf board should be permanent.
