NDA govt exploiting Election Commission to remain in power: Revanth
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday called upon all like-minded political forces in the country to join Rahul Gandhi's fight against vote theft (vote chori) and safeguard the democratic spirit of the country. He also alleged that the Centre was exploiting the Election Commission to rule the country for a long time.
Speaking at CPI leader and former MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy's memorial meeting at Ravindra Bharathi, the CM said: "Those in power at the Centre are trying to consolidate their power by making use of the Election Commission services as per their political needs. The ruling party (NDA) is removing the voters who are against them, which is a big threat to the country's parliamentary democracy".
He appealed to the political parties to analyse the new trend of the removal of votes as well as generating one crore votes in just four months. The Centre was removing the votes to win the Bihar assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was already fighting against vote theft and all political forces should unite and support the Congress leader to safeguard the country from these divisive forces.
Recalling his association with Sudhakar Reddy and his services, Revanth said that the CPI leader pursued the communist ideology till his last breath. Sudhakar Reddy was one among a few great communist leaders who toiled for the party and created awareness in society.
The CM also rrecalled Sudhakar Reddy's father Suravaram Pratap Reddy's fight against the Nizam rule on behalf of ‘Golconda Patrika' on the occasion. In the first generation, Suravaram Pratap Reddy and Burgula Ramakrishna Rao brought laurels to Mahabubnagar district. Jaipal Reddy and Sudhakar Reddy were prominent leaders in the second generation from the district. "There is a dire need of a strong and dedicated leader like Sudhakar Reddy in the present national politics," the CM said.
Stating that the cabinet will soon take a decision in recognition of Sudhakar Reddy's services, CM Revanth Reddy said the Congress govt has already named Telugu University after Suravaram Pratap Reddy on the advice of Sudhakar Reddy. Those who fought for the people will always be recognised and they will also be remembered forever in Telangana. The Women's University was also named after Chakali Ailamma to display the spirit of Telangana struggle. The Indian Institute of Handloom was named after Konda Laxman Bapuji and a statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud was installed on Tank Bund, the CM added.

The CM also sought to caution that the NDA govt was conspiring to change the Constitution and such an attempt posed a big threat to the country in the future. He wanted the communist parties to intensify their fight for the welfare of the people. "There are many instances of protracted struggles by the left parties in the country resulting in the defeat of ruling parties in the elections. Communism is not confined to studying the ideology in the libraries but also fighting strongly for the people's rights. The communist ideology needs to be propagated," he added.Recalling his association with Sudhakar Reddy and his services, Revanth said that the CPI leader pursued the communist ideology till his last breath.
