Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao

, said that he was a "sincere, honest officer who was known for his simplicity".

According to his peers, the former bureaucrat had been suffering from lung-related problems for over a year. "He had been ailing for a while. I have known him very closely, both as a colleague and a friend," said former home secretary,

K Padmanabhaiah

adding, "Yugandhar was a very dedicated officer who strongly believed in equal opportunities and strived towards bring change on the ground. Several batches of IAS officers trained at Mussoorie during his time. He left a lasting imprint on each one of them." Padmanabhaiah remembered Yugandhar as an "extremely modest person who was shy of the limelight".

In fact, even when Nadella was named CEO in 2014 and the world was going hung-go over the achievements of the Hyderabad-bred man, his parents - they lived in in Sri Nagar Colony -- maintained a low profile. In a brief chat with TOI outside his home, Yugandhar had said: "Yes, I wish him well, but that's all I have to say...All this is unnecessary hype."
