Municipalities to pull down illegal structures
HYDERABAD: After the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) officials asked the 12 municipalities to identify illegal structures, municipal commissioners have got down to work.
Demolition though will take time as the municipalities are in the process of preparing their 'lists'. Once this is completed, they will go back to Huda which will decide on the demolition.
1x1 polls
Demolition squads will comprise both Huda and municipality officials.
L B Nagar municipal commissioner N Satyanarayana, meanwhile is busy examining if his own office building has violated any norms. He refused to agree with Huda chairman Sudheer Reddy's views that most structures are illegal.
"If we do not consider set-back violations, 10-15 per cent of structures are illegal. Most of the individual houses end up violating norms owing to vaastu," he said. Sixteen illegal structures have been identified as per the Huda list.
While notices have already been served on some owners, rest of the violators will be receiving them soon. The priority should be on classifying 'litigation' cases, he said. Five to seven days time is given to building owners after a notice is served.
Demolition can begin once the notice period is over. For some like Rajendranagar municipal commissioner B V Gangadhar, the task is cut out as he explained, "There are hardly any commercial complexes in our municipality, apartments are also scarce.

As of now we have identified five apartments which are under construction having violated norms." Gangadhar along with his officials on Saturday will inspect to find out violations.
Municipalities are looking to Huda as the big brother as Alwal municipal commissioner V Srinivas Goud said: "In the meeting with Huda officials, we asked for their support in demolition as pressure will be exerted by the local councillors."
Interestingly, Goud says licence surveyors are to blamed for most of the illegal structures. Huda has identified 13 illegal structures in this municipality. Serving of notices will begin on Saturday, added Goud. Notices are being prepared in a way to avoid legal complications.
