GUNTUR: AICC secretary and Rajya Sabha member J D Seelam's brother and local ZPTC member Seelam Ravi had the taste of police lathi on Saturday when he entered into a wordy duel with the traffic police in the city.According to information, an auto belong to the gas agency owned by Seelam Ravi was seized by the traffic police on Friday evening. Upon information, Ravi called the traffic SI Kotireddy on phone and asked for the release of the vehicle.
However, the SI reportedly refused to release it even when Ravi told him that he was the brother of a ruling party MP.
Angered with the SI's reply, Ravi along with his men went to the Nagarapalem police station on Saturday morning and picked up an argument with traffic reserve inspector Santha Kumar.An enraged Ravi reportedly made an attempt to manhandle Kumar. However, the traffic policemen present there overpowered Ravi and allegedly beat him up. They took him into the station and threatened to lock him up if he continued his tirade. Later, Santha Kumar met SP B Sivadhar Reddy and sought permission to lodge a complaint against the Congress leader.However, Congress leaders rushed to the station on receiving the news. State libraries chairman Kuchipudi Sambasiva Rao, PCC secretary Rayapati Srinivas, MLAs Ravi Venkata Ramana, D M Varaprasad and others held negotiations with the police. Long parleys between the Congress leaders and police ensured a truce between the two parties. The Congress leaders secured the release of the high profile AICC secretary J D Seelam's brother few hours after he was almost 'locked up' by the police.
