Mohammad Ali Baig’s autobiographical play ‘Under an Oak Tree’ is set to get its UK premiere in London in the first week of April.
The play, features Mohammad Ali Baig, who narrates the story of a "boy's journey to manhood, shaped by a unique universe unlike any other, defined by the shade of the 'oak tree' under which he is raised." The play was based on the recollections of Baig’s childhood spent in a large farm in Hyderabad, and showcases the burden of carrying the legacy of a father who was a theatre legend, his venture into the glamorous world of ad films and venturing in the world of theatre again.

Calling it an honour, playwright Noor Baig says, “It’s really fulfilling when original work with the city’s true-blue essence and flavour is seen by thousands of people in the West.”
‘Under an Oak Tree’ was first performed at the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival held in the city in November last year and got rave reviews when it opened in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Arts Festival.
Baig’s previous play, ‘1857: Turrebaz Khan’ that retells the story of Turrebaz Khan who had put Hyderabad on the map of the country's First War of Independence, got a world premiere at Edinburgh Festival ‘Fringe’ two years go and a UK premiere in London. His plays ‘Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada’, ‘Savaan-e-Hayat’, ‘Spaces’ also became the toast of several international arts festivals and venues in UK, USA, Canada, France, Turkey and Pakistan.
