THORRUR (Warangal): Thanks to the timely intervention of police and a voluntary organisation, a child marriage was prevented in Thorrur mandal in Warangal district on Wednesday. The bride, bridegroom and their parents were counselled and later let off. No case was registered against the accused parents.
The incident came to light with after the voluntary organisation coordinator Uppallaiah and anganwadi workers brought it to the notice of the cops.

Shaik Hussain, 21, was about to tie the nuptials with an illiterate 11-year-old girl at Kashigudem of Haripirala village in Thorrur mandal when Uppallaiah of Pragathi Seva Samithi along with anganwadi workers rushed to the local police station and stopped the wedding. Hussain works in a stone-crushing unit on the outskirts of the village.
Thorrur SI Sridhar Rao went to the girl's house and convinced the parents against going ahead with the illegal marriage. Later, the youth and his parents were also counselled. "Forcible marriage of the girl against her wishes is punishable," Sridhar Rao said. He said that no case was registered as both parties had realised their folly and decided to call off the wedding.
