HYDERABAD: SR Nagar
police on Wednesday arrested minister P Vishwaroop's
brother-in-law for assaulting a business partner. The minister's son Krishna Reddy was named an accused in the case. On Tuesday night, B N Veera Raghavulu, a businessman from Balanagar and partner of the minister's brother-in-law I Sambamurthy, lodged a complaint against the latter, and others alleging that they had assaulted him at Krishna Reddy's room at SR Nagar.
According to police, Sambamurthy in partnership with Raghavulu had started four weighbridges at LB Nagar, Madhapur and Toopran four years ago. As per the contract between the two, Sambamurthy would get 60% of the profits and the rest would go to Raghavulu, who manages the weighbridges.
Everything went smoothly for two years, but in the past two years, they suddenly began incurring loss. "Sambamurthy's confidants had informed him that Raghavulu manipulated the weighbridge software a few years ago and siphoned off the profits," deputy commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone, V Satyanarayana said.
Sambamurthy suspected that he was duped by Raghavulu to the tune of Rs 1 crore. On Tuesday afternoon, he called Raghavulu to his house at Madhura Nagar. When Raghavulu arrived along with his assistant Suresh, Sambamurthy took them to Krishna Reddy's house at SR Nagar.
"According to the complainant, about six persons, including Sambamurthy and Krishna Reddy, assaulted him and made him sign on three blank bond papers. Raghavulu further alleged that they threatened him with dire consequences if he did not return the siphoned off money," SR Nagar inspector S Prabhakar said.
Following the incident, Raghavulu lodged a complaint with police and a case was registered against the assailants under sections 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (Wrongful confinement) and 506 r/w 34 (Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Wednesday, police arrested Sambamurthy from his house at Madhura Nagar and he was remanded in judicial custody. SR Nagar police said that they would examine some more witnesses before proceeding against the other culprits.
