HYDERABAD: Coming out strongly against any attempt by the BJP to bring ‘one nation, one election’, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that it will not be allowed as it was against the Constitution and federalism.

Replying to media queries over speculation of ‘one nation, one election’ bill being brought in the special Parliament session later this month, Owaisi said that opposition-ruled states will never accept this plan. He also pointed out that BJP didn’t have a majority in the Rajya Sabha to push it through.

Though a special session of Parliament has been convened from September 18-22, the agenda has not been announced, giving rise to speculations that even the bill for Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be tabled.

“UCC may not happen in this special session. BJP is more keen on showcasing the G-20 summit,” he said, adding that the special session should discuss five issues.
