AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi urges govt to impose total prohibition in Telangana

Akbaruddin Owaisi urged the government to enforce total prohibition in the state to combat rising crimes against women due to liquor addiction. Addressing the assembly during the budget session, he criticized the government for focusing more on revenue from liquor sales rather than educating people on its dangers. He suggested changing the name of the Excise and Prohibition department.

HYDERABAD: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has urged the government to impose total prohibition in the state.Speaking in the assembly during the budget session on Monday, Akbaruddin Owaisi said crimes against women were increasing because of addiction to liquor.“The Gandhian policy of total prohibition should be introduced in the state,” Akbaruddin Owaisi said.The AIMIM MLA from Chanrayangutta explained that there was hardly any effort by the government to educate people against consumption of liquor. He said the government was earning huge amounts through the sale of liquor.“Since this is the case, the name of the Excise and Prohibition should be changed. In this scenario, it is better to drop the word ‘prohibition’ from the name of the department,” he said.
