HYDERABAD: The 22-year-old nephew of AIMIM corporator Mohammed Ali Sharif was brutally murdered Monday evening by two assailants in his uncle's office in Lalitha Bagh in Old City. Though the two assailants were reportedly picked up by Task Force personnel, police are tight-lipped about the development.
Around 4:30pm, two assailants barged into the local MIM office and attacked the student, Syed Murtuza Ali Anas, with a knife when he was standing at the entrance. He was visiting his uncle, police said. They slashed the young man's throat and escaped.
MIM members shifted Murtuza to a private hospital in Kanchanbagh,but it was too late. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was later taken to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.
Murtuza, a resident of Akbar Nagar in Eidi Bazaar, was a student of Anwarul Uloom Degree College and son of the corporator's sister. Police suspect the murder could be the result of personal enmity.
Deputy commissioner of police (south zone), P Sai Chaitanya, who reached the crime scene along with a team from Bhavani Nagar police station, said a murder case was registered and CLUES Team pressed into service to gather more evidence. He said a sharp-edged knife was also seized from the spot.
Sources said Task Force personnel reportedly took the two suspects into custody, but police maintained that a search was on for the assailants.
"We have registered a murder case against unknown persons and launched a manhunt for the culprits. There appears to be personal reasons behind the murder," ACP, Santosh Nagar, Srinivas Reddy said. After the murder, police stepped up patrolling in the area.
