‘Mentally unstable’ man held with fake NIA ID card
HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old man from Kadapa was arrested near a sensitive defence institute at Sainikpuri on Saturday evening. The man, reportedly mentally unstable, was found to be in possession of a fake National Investigation Agency (NIA) identity card and a few photos in Army fatigues in his phone.
The man was initially apprehended by the Army personnel when he was found moving in a suspicious manner near the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Sainikpuri on Saturday evening.
During subsequent questioning, Army personnel found an NIA ID card in his possession.
After cross verifying with the NIA staff, the Army personnel realised that the accused was carrying a fake ID card, and so they handed him over to the Rachakonda police.
At 5.45pm on Saturday, CDM officials noticed the 28-year-old man moving in a suspicious manner near the campus gate at Sainikpuri. When he was questioned by the Army staff, he showed his Aadhaar card and introduced himself as a
As his answers were incoherent, the Army officials who apprehended him quizzed him further about his IAF job and also asked him to show an ID card.
The accused then produced the NIA identity card, which had his photo in Army fatigues and his designation as ‘Assistant Commandant, NIA’.
The Army officials verified details of the accused with NIA additional SP Mohammed Sajid and found that the ID card was fake. The accused was then handed over to the Neredmet police.
“The accused used to drive an auto in Kadapa. Some of his friends are in the armed forces and Vinod also wanted to join the Army. When we interrogated him, he started giving us incoherent answers and he also appeared to be mentally unstable.
“He told us that he had an interview to attend in Delhi for an Army job. We have to verify if he is speaking the truth. The accused got the fake ID made in Old City a few years ago.
“In his cell phone, we found several photos of him in Army uniform. A case was booked under Sections 419, 448, 468, 471 of the IPC. He was sent in judicial remand,” Neredmet inspector A Narasimha Swamy said.
