WARANGAL: Asia's biggest tribal fair, Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara, concluded on Saturday with lakhs of devotees bidding farewell to the tribal goddesses at Medaram village in Warangal district.
Bamboo sticks and small boxes containing vermillion, symbolising the goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma, were taken back to the forest marking the conclusion of the four-day festi val held once in two years.
Officials claimed that about a crore people from various parts of the country had attended the fair during the last four days.
Goddess Sammakka was taken back to Chilakalagutta village. Goddess Saralamma was taken to Kannepally vil lage.
Tribal gods Padigidda raju and Govindaraju were taken to their respective res ting places. Tribal priests led the processions.
District collector Vakat Karuna said the Jatara had passed off without any trouble and there were no untoward incidents.
CM K Chandrasekhar Rao said the fair was success ully held and the state government had provided all amenities to the pilgrims.
He called up Karuna and rural SP Ambarkishore Jha on phone and praised them for he smooth conduct of the event. Endowment minister A Indrakaran Reddy had camped at Medaram.
