HYDERABAD: The all-powerful Building Committee that governs the construction activity in the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) limits, may be dissolved if the recently elected corporators have their way.

the committee, currently comprises officials drawn from traffic police, huda, district joint collector, airports authority, fire services and some other departments. the panel was constituted to avoid delay in issuing permissions and and reduce the number of trips applicants have to make to various government departments for obtaining ‘no objection certificates’. though officials claim that an application seeking permission for construction was processed with in 30 days of its submission, this holds good only on paper. the move for disbanding the committee began when congress corporator d mohan, representing the gunfoundry division, apprised deputy mayor g subhash chander about the problems faced by applicants. “we have to help people of our division and should be given a chance in the decision making process,� he told the times of india. mch standing committee chairman m madhu, admitting to the inordinate delays and corruption among the lower level officials of the town planning wing, said following representations from many corporators, it was decided that the standing committee would discuss the dissolution of the building committee at its next meeting. “several corporators have complained that an applicant has to submit many documents which are not necessary as per hyderabad municipal corporation act. after the discussion, corporators will be involved in according permissions for constructions in their respective division,� he said.
