HYDERABAD: Mayor Mohd Majid Hussain has directed the GHMC chief entomologist to issue charge memo to an assistant entomolist of Circle VII for misleading officers on the number of dengue cases registered in city hospitals. The mayor turned his ire on the assistant entomologist, who said there were no dengue cases in his circle, while Hussain said he had visited Lotus Hospital where two cases were reported on Sunday.
The mayor on Monday reviewed the spread of seasonal diseases and measures being taken by the corporation. He directed the officials to submit a list of various cases like dengue in various hospitals by Tuesday. The mayor enquired about Rs10 crore special budget allocated for dengue prevention. He said the budget was released in view of sudden increase in the number of cases of dengue last year (total cases reported last year 604). Chief entomologist K Venkatesh explained that they had intensified the awareness programmes besides taking up door-to-door anti-larval operations.
Majid Hussain said he was not satisfied with the activities of the entomology wing. and directed them to take up a special drive in each and every school starting from Tuesday
. He also enquired about the allegation of benami workers in the wing and asked them to submit unit-wise details by Tuesday.
