HYDERABAD: Union minister for women and child development
Maneka Gandhi,
who has taken a keen interest in getting a child bride rescued from Oman, has provided information to the Indian
Embassy in Muscat
about the man who forcibly married the minor girl from Hyderabad.
The Omani national who got married to a 16-year-old Hyderabad girl is named Al Rahbi Ahmed Abdullah Amur. His age, according to his passport issued by the Sultanate of Oman, is 63 years with his date of birth being mentioned as May 4, 1954.
The passport copy and a copy of the multiple entry visa of the India was provided to the Indian Embassy in Muscat by Maneka Gandhi. The minister had urged Union minister for external affairs
Sushma Swaraj to rescue the minor girl from Oman following which the embassy sought the details.
“We need more details of the Omani national like name, passport number etc. to be able to take up with the
Omani Ministry of Foreign
affairs,“ the Indian embassy in Muscat said in response to Maneka Gandhi's request to Sushma Swaraj to intervene and bring the girl back to India from Oman.
“Here are the details of the Omani national. Kindly expedite the matter and ensure the safe return of the girl,“ Maneka Gandhi tweeted to the embassy . Strangely, the embassy did not even acknowledge receipt of the documents despite the minister providing the copies.Al Rahbi Ahmed Abdullah Amur had come to India before Ramzan on May 11, 2017.This is validated by the immigration stamp on his arrival at the
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport that day .His visa issued on April 12, 2017 was valid up to October 11, 2017.
Syeed Unnisa, a resident of Nawab Saheb Kunta, said when she called her daughter, she was crying to be rescued and the Omani had said he had purchased her daughter for Rs 5 lakh.
