Man kills parents after quarrel over money in Hyderabad, police launch manhunt

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his parents to death in Nacharam on Sunday night, minutes after threatening to kill them over a money dispute. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused, identified as B Srinivas.The double murder occurred at around 8.30 pm in Shiva Nagar Colony. According to the complaint filed by Srinivas's 18-year-old nephew, B Shiva Sai, the victims—his grandparents, B Rajaiah, 60, and Laxmi, 55—were attacked inside their home with a stick. Rajaiah was unemployed, while Laxmi worked as a domestic help. The couple lived with their sons, Srinivas and Raja Lingam, and grandson Shiva Sai. In his statement, the complainant said Srinivas had been addicted to alcohol since divorcing his wife eight years ago. "He frequently demanded money from my grandparents for liquor and often quarrelled with them when they refused," he told police. On Sunday afternoon, Srinivas again demanded money. "When they refused, he threatened to kill them at night and left. Around 9 pm, I heard loud screams from their room. I rushed in and found my uncle holding a stick. My grandparents were lying on the floor with bleeding head injuries. As soon as I reached, he dropped the stick and fled," Shiva Sai said. The victims died at the spot due to severe head injuries. Neighbours and police were alerted immediately. Investigators said the accused sustained a head injury himself after slipping in the verandah while escaping. Nacharam police registered a case under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination. "Our special team is working to trace the absconding accused," Kushaiguda ACP Y Venkat Reddy said.
