HYDERABAD: The obsession of two neighbourhood friends to win the love of a girl allegedly prompted one of them to eliminate the other under the Tukaramgate police station limits on Wednesday.
According to the police, the victim, identified as P Shiva Kumar, 22, a resident of Sainagar Tukaramgate, was found murdered at the RRC Grounds near Rail Nilayam in the early hours of Wednesday.
Shiv Kumar went missing from his house on March 15, following which his father Prasad Rao lodged a missing complaint with the police. Rao informed the police that his son was last seen with his friend Raj Kumar.
"We suspect a love tangle between both the friends as a strong reason for the incident. Raj Kumar might have eliminated Shiva Kumar to assert himself," said Tukaramgate inspector P Prabhakar Reddy.
He said that he had received a call on Wednesday morning saying that a highly decomposed body was lying at the RRC grounds. During the course of investigation, Prasad Rao identified the body of his son.
The police later shifted the body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for conducting an autopsy.
Police inquiries revealed that Shiva Kumar''s neighbour Raj Kumar took him to a toddy shop at Tukaramgate along with three of his friends and forced him to consume toddy.
They took Shiva Kumar to an isolated place at the RRC grounds and strangled him with a rope and used a boulder to smash his head.
Raj Kumar was undergoing treatment at the Fever Hospital in Nallakunta when Shiva Kumar''s relatives enquired about Shiva Kumar''s whereabouts.
Police said they were probing Raj Kumar''s involvement in the case and verifying his claims of suffering from Jaundice.
