HYDERABAD: Stating that the Telugu film industry has been contributing a lot towards the development of the state, particularly with regard to culture, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday stressed the need for making value-based and quality movies.

HYDERABAD: Stating that the Telugu film industry has been contributing a lot towards the development of the state, particularly with regard to culture, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday stressed the need for making value-based and quality movies.
Addressing the Nandi Film Awards presentation ceremony for the years 2000 and 2001 at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Public Gardens, the chief minister said that films always made an impact on society and the public definitely appreciate good movies.

The Telugu film industry has occupied a prominent position in the country and several veteran Telugu actors like N T Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao gained popularity all over the nation, he added.
Naidu asserted that the state government would always encourage value-based and entertaining movies. It was good to see young talents in the Telugu film industry, he said and added that there was a need to encourage them for stabilising the film industry further.
Junior railway minister Bandaru Dattatreya, home and cinematography minister T Devender Goud, information and public relations minister S Chandramohan Reddy and tourism and culture minister T Srinivas Yadav spoke on the occasion.
The chief minister, later, presented awards to film personalities under different categories and felicitated them.
Those received the awards for 2000 included S V Krishna Reddy (best director); Jagapathi Babu (best actor); Laya (best actress); Kota Srinivasa Rao (best supporting actor); Jhansi (best supporting actress); Prakash Raj (best character actor); Jayasudha (best character actress); M S Narayana and L B Sriram (best comedians); Jaya Prakash Reddy (best villain); Vandemataram Srinivas (best music director); S P Balasubramanyam (best male singer); S Janaki (best female singer).
The awardees for the year 2001 included Teja (best director); N Balakrishna (best actor); Laya (best actress); Murali Mohan (best supporting actor); Suhasini (best supporting actress); Tanikella Bharani (best character actor); Laxmi (best character actress); Sunil (best comedian); Srilaxmi (best comedian); Kota Srinivasa Rao (best villain); R P Patnaik (best music director); Keeravani (best male singer) and Usha (best female singer).
