HYDERABAD: Mayor Mohd Majid Hussain said that all heritage buildings housing government offices would be renovated, while taking due care to preserve their original architectural elements.
Majid Hussain along with Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri and senior officials inspected some of the heritage structures at Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority office, Divan Devdi and other areas in Old City on Saturday.
The mayor said Rs 100 crore had been allocated in the budget for maintenance of the heritage buildings in the GHMC limits. The mayor said previously there was a committee to look after heritage buildings in the entire GHMC jurisdiction, but could not take up the maintenance work as there were no budget provisions.
The corporation now allotted Rs 100 crore for the purpose and Rs 150 crore would be allocated to Water Board for taking up various civic works, said the mayor.
Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority office building was one of the oldest heritage structures and was in urgent need of maintenance. In view of this, officials of QQSUDA organized the visit on Saturday in coordination with senior engineering officials of the GHMC to prepare estimates for the maintenance of heritage structures.
Responding to the query of the media, the MLA said that the heritage structures like Clock Tower at Mozam Zahi Market and most of the heritage buildings located in Old City and in other parts of the twin cities would be taken care of.
