TRS MP, T Madhusudhan Reddy, announced his resignation from the LS in protest against the government's decision to establish IIT in Medak district.
HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MP from Adilabad, T Madhusudhan Reddy, on Tuesday announced his resignation from the Lok Sabha in protest against the state government's decision to establish the proposed IIT in Medak district. The TRS is demanding that it should be located in Basara in Adilabad district as proposed earlier by the previous Telugu Desam government.
Reddy's resignation letter is addressed to Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee and has been submitted to an all-party committee appointed to monitor the struggle for the setting up of the IIT in Basara. "My resignation letter is with the committee comprising representatives from the TDP, TRS, BJP, CPM, CPI and CPI (ML) (New Democracy). We will wait a couple of days to see if there is any change in the decision of the government to locate the IIT in Medak district. If none, then the committee is authorised to forward the resignation letter to the Speaker,"Madhusudhan Reddy told TOI over telephone from Adilabad.
The all-party committee met in Basara on Tuesday morning and decided to intensify the agitation to secure IIT for Basara. And in what could be an embarrassment for the ruling Congress regime, the Telangana party leaders have announced their support for the agitation. "Basara is an ideal locale for the IIT. That the town has no facilities to accommodate an institute like IIT is not correct. I request the government to review its decision,"Nizamabad Congress MP Madhu Yaski Goud told TOI.
Madhusudhan Reddy said an action plan would be drawn up to organise various forms of struggles not only in Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts but also in Nanded district of Maharashtra. Nanded MP B P Patil belonging to the BJP, who also attended Tuesday's all-party meeting in Basara, expressed his solidarity with the students of the Adilabad who are on a hunger strike to secure IIT. "So far, only Adilabad and Nizamabad districts observed education bandh. Now it will spread to other districts,"the TRS MP said. TDP former MP S Venugopalachary, TRS MLA Narayanarao Patel, TDP MLA Sridevi, Adilabad ZP chairman R Rathod of TDP along with representatives from the BJP, CPI, CPM and CPI (ML) (New Democracy) attended the meet.
