HYDERABAD: Several Lok Sabha poll contestants from major parties, including BRS, Congress and BJP, have pending challans against their vehicles for various traffic rules’ violations. The violations relate to dangerous driving, unauthorized parking, signal jumping and improper number plates, among others.

MP candidates are required to settle all dues before submitting poll affidavits. However, many of them are yet to clear their dues. They claim that they were not driving when the violations happened.

Some aspirants had cleared the challans during the recent discount offer by Telangana police, but some of them failed to utilize the opportunity. Some candidates, after clearing their dues, committed fresh violations.

Peddpalle Lok Sabha BRS candidate Koppula Eshwar has the highest number of challans, totalling Rs 6,210, pending since 2019. Congress Medak candidate Neelam Madhu has to clear Rs 3,305 fines, pending over the months for speeding.

Zahirabad Congress candidate Suresh Kumar Shetkar has pending challans of Rs Rs 3,105 for speeding since December 2023.
