family

members not agreeing for marriage, two Degree students ended their lives by hanging from a tree at Kathalapur village in

Jagtial

district on Saturday.


The victims — B Sirisha, 19, and L Mahipal, 20 — were Degree students from Rajaram Thanda near Kathlapur village in Jagtial district. Sirisha and Mahipal were friends since their school days and six years ago they fell in love with each other, Kathlapur sub-inspector (SI) M Raja Prameela said.

After Intermediate, Srisha had joined a Degree college in Korutla, while Mahipal an institution in Karimnagar. Recently, the youngsters informed the family members about their love and sought permission to get married. “While Mahipal’s family members asked him to wait till they finish graduation, Sirisha’s family refused to let her marry her lover. They recently fixed her marriage with another person,” the sub-inspector said.

According to police, Sirisha’s engagement was performed with another man recently. On Saturday morning, Sirisha and Mahipal left their respective homes stating that they were going to college, but they did not return home. Later in the evening, people from Kathlapur found the

couple

hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village with ropes.

“We have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and after autopsy handed over the bodies to family members,” the SI said.
