HYDERABAD: They may be involved in making major administrative decisions or in-charge of law and order, but several IAS and IPS officers have been found wanting when it comes to paying up the rent for their official accommodation.

These officers were provided accommodation at the senior officers' flats in Kundanbagh, IJ type quarters in Erram Manzil, PJ type quarters and independent houses in Punjagutta and flats in Banjara Hills.
As per rules, once an officer is transferred out of Greater Hyderabad, he or she is allowed to stay in the official accommodation for two more months. In cases where the transfer happens after September 30 and if the children are studying in Hyderabad, the officer can retain the quarters till the end of the academic year. After the grace period is over, a penal rent of Rs 15,000 per month for the first two months followed by Rs 20,000 per month has to be paid for retaining the accommodation.
