HYDERABAD: It was a moment of rejoice for
Haseeb Mohammed
and his family after his brother
Sohail
returned from war-torn
Ukraine
after days of struggle.
Sohail, a third year MBBS student of
Dnipro State Medical University
, was stuck at Dnipropetrov’k in the eastern part of Ukraine since January. The student, who was expected to return to the country on February 26, was able to return after a long struggle only on March 6. It was only after a long journey to Lviv in the western parts of Ukraine from where he could reach the
Slovakia
border to be able to return home.
On Sunday, the family was elated to see Sohail back home safe. “My mother has been worried and tensed ever since the war began in Ukraine. She had not eaten enough fearing about Sohail. Now she cooked his favourite meal and had her first proper meal with him by her side. It was a very emotional moment for us as a family,” said Haseeb Mohammed, brother of the medical student.
The student who travelled for almost 36 hours in a train amid bone-chilling weather, returned home to the warmth of his family members. “Until January, we thought the situation was under control. It was only after we started our journey to Lviv that we realised that something was horribly wrong with this country,” said Sohail as told to his brother, who spent his Sunday meeting all his relatives and friends.
