HYDERABAD: She has no fingers on her left hand but that never proved to be an obstacle in the path of B K Vishnu Priya's dreams. A resident of Vidyanagar, Vishnu Priya's name figures in the list of candidates who have qualified in the civil services examination 2005, announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).Priya bagged the 416th rank and that qualifies her to choose any of the allied services.
She also has reservation under the SC category and also physically handicapped category.
"I was born with a deformity but I had my way of overcoming my handicap to pursue my dream of getting clearing this difficult examination," Vishnu Priya who has also completed her MBA from Osmania University said.In the results announced on Monday around 20 candidates who have qualified for entry into the civil services hail from Andhra Pradesh. But unlike the previous years in which at least one candidate used to qualify for the IAS in the open category, this year there is no one. The top most rank, which is 88th rank, from Andhra Pradesh, has been bagged by Dr K Raghuram Reddy who is currently pursuing his post-graduation from Osmania Medical College in the city. He, and Ake Ravi Krishna, who has bagged the 117th rank would in all probability qualify for the IPS. According to V Gopalakrishna of Brain Tree, due to the Group-1 examinations held in Andhra Pradesh, the number of applicants in the civil services examination 2005 from the state was relatively less. It is estimated that out of the 5,000 candidates who appeared for the prelims, 175 qualified for the main examination. Out of these, 40 qualified for the interview and 20 have been certified for appointment.It is a success story for Dr Janumal Allwyn from Warangal who has secured 387 rank. Dr Allwyn who has an MD in dermatology said he would give up his medical profession for a job which he expects in the Indian Revenue Service. "Though I have studied medicine, I have always wanted to get into civil services. I am a bit disappointed that I will not be able to get into the IAS ," he said. Dr Allwyn's father used to do 'petty jobs' and his mother is a teacher in a private school. "I hail from Warangal and my relatives and family members have always inspired me to get into the civil services,"he said. Some of the other students who have qualified for the civil services from Andhra Pradesh are: Praveen Kumar Abhinapu, Sadu Narasimha Reddy from Khammam, Yeluchuri Ratnakar Rao from Rajahmundry, C Sudhakar, Prashanth, Narendra Kumar Naik, A Chandrasekhar Reddy, S Sudhakar, Nagaraj from Anantapur.
