Lok Sabha elections: PM Modi, Amit Shah to storm Telangana; BJP final list on March 15
HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick-start the BJP’s Telangana election campaign with a series of public meetings. While Modi will address at least four public meetings, including one this month, BJP national president Amit Shah will address six public meetings in the next one month.
While stating that the party will contest all 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state, BJP state president K Laxman told reporters on Tuesday, “The BJP parliamentary board will finalise the names on March 15. Before that, state BJP core committee will meet on March 14 to recommend the names.”
He hoped the party will reverse the assembly results trend and get more seats in the Lok Sabha elections. “The TRS is dreaming of winning 16 seats of the 17 seats. I dare TRS working KTR, is he ready to take political sanyas if NDA government comes back to power on its own and Modi becomes Prime Minister again?” Laxman said.
On the number of LS seats the BJP would win, Laxman said, he was not an astrologer to predict numbers. But the party would return more number of MPs in the state and even become ministers in the Modi government.
The BJP state president said he was ready to contest if the party decides so. “Many senior leaders and bureaucrats are seeking LS tickets. Nothing wrong in aspiring for a ticket. Finally, party will take a call,” he said.
Laxman said the TRS had won 14 seats in 2014 elections but could not achieve anything. But the BJP with only one MP had secured more projects and schemes. “Even after losing elections in the Telangana assembly elections, the BJP government had sanctioned AIIMS and projects like national highways,” he said. He said Telangana statehood was achieved with support of the BJP.
While claiming that regional parties have limited role in national politics, the BJP president said K Chandrasekhar Rao had come up with idea of Federal Front, but it turned out to be a “family front”.
“Earlier, KCR became labour minister in the UPA government, did he get a railway line or any major project to Telangana,” he said.
He also charged TRS leadership with being a pawn in the hands of Darusalam (headquarters of AIMIM).
