HYDERABAD: While people have been getting several spam calls ever since the poll schedule was announced, they say the number of calls has increased dramatically as D-Day nears. This, despite having Do Not Disturb (DND) option enabled.
“It’s not one party, but all major parties that are using IVRS or pre-recorded calls to seek votes. The frequency of these calls has only increased in the last few days,” said D Kiran, a techie.
He said that he has been getting around seven to eight calls a day. Denizens complain that apart from pre-recorded calls, parties are also trying to understand the pulse of the people by conducting surveys through IVRS.
“I got calls asking to choose a number based on which party I want to vote for. It looks like these calls are scheduled round the clock as I have been getting them throughout the day disturbing my daily schedule,” said Lalitha Krishna, a private teacher.
Irked residents questioned how political parties got their phone numbers in the first place and are able to spam them even when DND is activated. “I have lost count of phone numbers I have blocked in the last few days. These calls are made from different states on behalf of various political parties. Despite blocking so many numbers, I am still getting calls,” said M Gopal Rao, a senior citizen.
Not just calls, but denizens say they are also receiving messages on instant messaging apps. While most of the messages promote a particular party or candidate, some are even sending out links with free recharge offers to lure voters. “The free recharge offer looks like a scam as the message said I will get three months free recharge for voting for a particular party,” said Abhishek Kumar, a B Tech student.
