Lack of amenities clouds Tellapur’s growth, income
Hyderabad: Tellapur is one of the richest municipalities in the state, but is among the poorest in west Hyderabad when it comes to basic amenities such as drinking water, sewage system, roads and power supply. With a property tax revenue of 33 crore, the civic body has been witnessing a substantial year-on-year growth of funds ranging from 10% to 20%. According to an RTI reply, the residential area has a record property tax compliance rate of 89%.Posh gated communities such as Alien Space Station, My Home Rajapushpa, Mayfair Sunrise Villas and others are located amidst narrow roads despite growing traffic in the region which has neither proper drainage system nor storm water drains. Residents rue that the approved layout was also not being followed while laying CC roads. For instance, the stretch between Osmannagar and Gopanapally is declared as a 60ft road, however, the muddy route is not even 30ft. “We as residents decided to fix the road ourselves by pooling funds from several gated communities and are now laying the path. However, the widening to its prescribed width is still in government hands,” Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) president Ramana Eshwaragiri told TOI. Erratic power supply is another major issue plaguing the plush societies.“Not a single day goes by when we don’t see a power cut. It’s a long-pending problem because of lack of a substation nearby,” TeNA member Deepthi said. On a positive note, the government did sanction land for Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited for construction of a new substation and drinking water supply tank, which is expected to be ready by January 2024. Tellapur municipality officials said several proposals are being processed to ramp up the infrastructure.“Very soon, power and drinking water supply will be resolved as work is happening at a brisk pace. We are planning to lay CC roads soon after the monsoon. When it comes to drainage, a project design is being worked on closely with the HMWS&SB. A sewerage system will be set in place,” a senior official said.
