HYDERABAD: A day after being appointed as working president of TRS and amid speculation that he would be elevated to the post of Telangana chief minister, KT Rama Rao said TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao would be the chief minister of Telangana for the next 10 to 15 years and stewardship for the state is very much needed.

“NT Rama Rao played a crucial role at national level some decades ago while continuing as the CM of united AP. TDP was the second largest party in India at that time. KCR can also play a crucial role in the national politics from Hyderabad, while continuing as the CM,” KTR said at the Meet the Press programme organised by the Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday.

While admitting that there were senior leaders in the party, KTR said KCR gave the responsibility of working president to him and he would prove his ability. “I have participated in the Telangana movement and worked in four direct elections and another four by-polls. In GHMC, we got 99 divisions and in this election, being in-charge of Hyderabad and erstwhile Ranga Reddy district, of 29 TRS bagged 18 seats,” he added.

Responding to volley of questions, KTR said that the party supremo has given him the responsibility as the party needs to be strengthened ahead of panchayat, cooperatives, municipal body and

elections in the next six months.

Talking about the election results, KTR said the fight was between ‘Progress and Congress’. “Of the nearly 2 crore who voted in the elections, 98 lakh voters voted for TRS (47%) and 48 lakh for the Congress,” KTR said.

He also assured the people that the government would keep all its promises made during poll campaigning. “People reposed faith in TRS despite opposition parties coming together to defeat TRS. The biggest compliment and acceptance to TRS was that about 40 villages gram panchayats in Dharmabad assembly constituency in Maharashtra passed unanimous resolutions that they want to merge with Telangana after seeing 24x7 free power supply to farmers and other schemes like Rythu Bandhu,” KTR added.
