HYDERABAD: Apart from party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, the BRS appears to be completely dependent on working president KT Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao, who are shouldering the responsibility of campaigning in all the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
While many senior leaders were conspicuous by their absence or confining themselves to their respective assembly constituencies, both KTR and Harish have taken upon themselves to do the legwork, working out strategies, campaigning for candidates and conducting roadshows, besides attending filing of nomination of some of the candidates.
KCR set out on his 17-day bus yatra on Wednesday and he is set to cover all the constituencies and end his yatra by addressing the Medak rally on May 10. “He has been meeting farmers and addressing meetings and roadshows. We are hoping his charisma and oratory skills will help the party win more seats,” a paty leader said.
Party leaders said there was no dearth of senior leaders but most of them were confined to their respective constituencies. For instance, former energy minister G Jagadish Reddy is seen campaigning only in and around Nalgonda constituency. Some senior leaders and former ministers are missing in the campaigning in some constituencies due to lack of coordination and local issues, a source said.
Some ex-MLAs are also restricting themselves to their assembly segments and not moving out much to campaign for the MP candidates selected by KCR. While BJP is roping in national leaders to campaign in Telangana, including Union ministers, BRS is completely dependent on KTR and Harish, an independent observer said.
KTR has already toured Chevella, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Nagarkurnool and Karimnagar constituencies, while Harish campaigned in constituencies like Khammam, Zaheerabad and Medak. “The party depends heavily on KTR and Harish Rao as they can raise people’s issues to good effect,” a senior BRS leader said.
