HYDERABAD: A man who was an accused in a double murder case was stabbed, bludgeoned with stones and then shot dead by a group of persons in Jawaharnagar on Monday morning.
Police suspect previous enmity to be the motive.
Jawaharnagar police said, Venkat Ratnam, 45, was riding a two-wheeler when he was followed and intercepted by a group who arrived in an autorickshaw and on a bike.
They allegedly attacked him, pushing him to the ground before stabbing him with knives and repeatedly bludgeoning him with stones. Gunshots were heard soon after.
After killing Venkataratnam, some of the assailants got into the autorickshaw while two others sped away on the bike. The crime was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, and the footage later went viral.
When police reached the spot and began their investigation, they initially identified the victim as Venkataratnam. After contacting his family, investigators learnt that the attack took place shortly after he had dropped his daughter at a nearby school.
In the past, Venkataratnam had been involved in a double murder case in Dhoolpet. Police are verifying whether that case led to Monday’s killing. Based on the CCTV footage, they are trying to identify and trace the accused.
