HYDERABAD: Facing a tough battle for survival in the face of electoral onslaught from the two big national parties, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has gone back to his roots of the statehood plank saying the fight for Telangana is not over yet.
On Sunday, the former chief minister said the Telangana movement continues as there is much to be done for the state’s reconstruction. KCR said BRS will have to start all over again after coming back to power.
Addressing meetings in Veenavanaka in Karimnagar district, the BRS chief said: “We had to undo a lot of damage done in united Andhra Pradesh, but it is painful to see that Congress has reversed whatever was achieved in the BRS tenure. People are already vexed with the Congress govt. BRS will win the next assembly elections whenever they happen, in the middle of a five-year term or whatever.”
Stating that many companies were lining up for investment in Telangana during the BRS tenure much to the chagrin of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he claimed that companies were now thinking of getting away from the state. “A company with 1,000 crore investment potential has already left the state for Chennai,” he said. Aluminium and plastic industries were unhappy with power holidays in the state, he added.
He claimed that in just five months, the Congress govt harmed not only Telangana’s image but also agricultural sector. “During BRS tenure, the govt procured paddy through 7,500 centres, despite incurring a loss of 750-800 crore. Even discoloured paddy was purchased in consideration of farmers’ well-being. But that isn’t happening right now,” the former CM said.
“The Congress govt stopped giving KCR kits, nutrition kits, there is a decline in institutional deliveries, air conditioning is not working in Warangal MGM hospital, and the worst conditions are prevailing in Adilabad govt hospital,” the BRS chief said.
He claimed that the Congress govt in the state failed due to lack of governance skills and empathy for the average man. KCR urged people to elect at least 14 MPs (of BRS) in the Lok Sabha polls, claiming that party MPs would oppose any measure that would jeopardise the state’s benefits.
“PM Modi proposed to Revanth Reddy that Godavari water be diverted to Tamil Nadu. The CM kept quiet. Modi tried the same with me, but I told him to first clear Telangana’s share in Godavari, and then talk,” KCR recounted.
