Hyderabad: A day before the end of his tenure, Karimnagar mayor Y Sunil Rao is expected to quit the BRS and join the BJP on Saturday. Along with him, 10 BRS corporators from the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation are likely to join the saffron party in the presence of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay, who is also the MP from Karimnagar.
However, BRS leaders have claimed they have no knowledge of Sunil Rao's decision to leave the party, saying that he participated in local party meetings. Despite rumours circulating since Friday morning about the mayor and corporators shifting their loyalties, Sunil Rao has not made any official comment.
In response to the developments, BRS leaders are actively trying to reach out to Sunil Rao.
The BJP, particularly Sanjay, has been focusing on the Karimnagar corporation seat and attempting to woo BRS leaders ahead of the elections. Interestingly, Sanjay was previously a corporator in the KMC before becoming the state BJP president.
The BRS is closely monitoring the situation, as Karimnagar holds significant importance for the pink party. BRS supremo KCR has represented the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat twice.
