Hyderabad: Gandhi Nagar police arrested three persons, including a juvenile offender, and recovered 12 stolen bikes worth Rs 6 lakh from their possession on Monday. The culprits were identified as V Ravindra, 19, of Balajinagar in Jawaharnagar; E Santhosh Reddy, 19, of BJR Nagar in Jawaharnagar; and the juvenile offender.
According to Central Zone DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy, the trio used to steal bikes with the help of duplicate keys and used them for, among other things, street racing.
"After the theft, they would change some parts of the bike and also change its colour. After making slight modifications, they used to sell it to friends for Rs 2,000 or 3,000 or exchange it for cell phones," the DCP added.
Ravindra was earlier arrested by the Neredmet police along with the juvenile offender in February for bike thefts. In less than a week, they came out on bail. In the past two months, they committed 12 thefts with the help of Santhosh at Gandhi Nagar, Ramgopalpet, Uppal, Kushaiguda, Neredmet, Marredpally, Lalaguda and Keesara.
Acting on a tip-off, Gandhi Nagar police arrested the three while they were travelling on stolen bikes in Secunderabad on Monday. Based on their confession, police recovered 12 stolen bikes from various customers. The three were remanded in judicial custody.
