HYDERABAD: Agitated over the poor quality of food supplied at the duty doctors' mess, about 800 junior doctors at Gandhi Hospital have decided to boycott elective duties and classes from September 1.
The medicos alleged that cottonseed oil is being used by the contractor in the mess. They demanded removal of hospital superintendent Dr E A Ashok Kumar and hospital resident medical officer Dr B V Rao claiming that the two officials are hand in glove with the contractor.
"We have been fighting on this issue for the last few years but the hospital superintendent and other officials are supporting the contractor instead.

Bypassing rules, the contractor was given a 10-year contract (2003-2013) which is being continued despite several violations of the contract," said Dr Mohammed Imran, president, Gandhi Hospital wing of AP Junior Doctors Association.
Posters criticising the hospital superintendent's activities were put up all over the hospital corridors by the medicos on Tuesday.
