HYDERABAD: Congress on Tuesday expelled Jalagam Venkatarao, a sitting MLA and Chanda Lingaiah Dora, former ZP chairperson of Khammam, from the party for filing nominations as rebel candidates.
All together, party president D Srinivas expelled 40 rebel candidates from the party as they did not comply with the warnings of PCC president, chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Vayalar Ravi, AICC incharge of AP affairs in the last couple of days, to withdraw from the contest.

According to party general secretary R Ananda Bhaskar, all the rebel candidates in the first phase of elections have been expelled from the party for six years. But, those who retired from the contest would be exempted from the expulsion once they intimate the PCC president about their retirement from the contest in writing, Bhaskar said.
"All the presidents of District Congress committees have been asked to take the disciplinary actions against all those who are working against the official nominees of the party," Bhaskar said in a statement.
