Jana Sena no show in T, candidates lose their deposits

HYDERABAD: Actor Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party drew a blank as it faced defeat in all the eight seats it contested and lost deposits. It entered the poll race in alliance with BJP.

The party only made an impact in Kukatpally seat. Despite Pawan Kalyan's extensive tour, the party did not fare well. Last-minute entry into the fray, no inclination of Munnuru Kapus towards the party like Andhra Kapus take to Jana Sena, lack of noteworthy candidates and perception of Jana Sena as an 'Andhra-centric' party contributed to the losses, analysts said.

Senior analyst Professor K Nageshwar said it was not a wise move on Jana Sena's part to contest in Telangana polls. "No party led by an Andhra leader will do well in Telangana. They have no base here. BJP committed a blunder by going in alliance with Jana Sena. This disaster of Jana Sena may not have a direct bearing on the party's chances in 2024 polls in AP. The politics in AP are a different ball game where caste politics take centrestage," he said.

Jana Sena candidate M Prem Kumar in Kukatpally got 39,830 votes. In Ashwaraopet, Umadevi stood fourth with 2,281 votes.
