HYDERABAD: City’s premiere institute, the Indian Institute of Technology - Hyderabad, is scouting for a new head as the term of the current director, BS Murty is coming to an end soon.
The director who took charge in 2019 is slated to complete his term on August 26, 2024.
The Union ministry of education recently released a notification inviting applications for the post. It states that the ministry is looking for candidates who have served in an administrative capacity for at least five years in any institute of prominence and have 10 years of teaching experience in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) courses.
“As per procedure, a search-cum-selection committee will be formed, which will consider all the applications received. Some nominations are usually made by prominent persons that may also be considered. Those shortlisted will be called for an interview and selected based on the President of India’s recommendation. If no appropriate person is found, they might extend the tenure of the current director,” said a retired professor from IIT.
The notification was released this week, and sources note that mostly directors/deans from other IITs and NITs are likely to apply for the post owing to the specific administrative clause.
Within IIT-H there are close to 80 professors of varying seniority. Of these only 10 to 15 hold various administrative roles, sources added.
