IIIT-Basara student dies by suicide in Telangana

HYDERABAD: A Dalit student with IIIT-Basara died by suicide on Sunday. His body was found hanging in his hostel room. College authorities said, the 17-year-old student took the extreme step due to personal reasons. The student, P Bhanu Prasad, is pursuing PUC-II. The incident triggered mild tension on the campus. Police purportedly seized a suicide note, but it's details are yet to be made public.

Fearing backlash from students, police had to briefly disrupt power supply and shift the body from campus to the mortuary. After Bhanu's friends saw him hanging and informed college authorities that police were called in. A case of suspicious death has been registered. Officials said, they do not suspect any foul play, but they want forensic experts to give their opinion after the autopsy. tnn
