Hyderabad: After the hard work it was time to celebrate for the two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen. Back in the city after another terrific show at the Worlds, Nikhat is busy attending felicitation functions.
On Wednesday, the champion boxer was felicitated and presented with a cash award of Rs 5 lakh by NMDC. Nikhat is the brand ambassador of this corporation.
Thanking the corporation for all the support, Nikhat said that she is determined to win more medals for the country.
Narrating her experience of representing the country Nikhat said that she did not connect much with the national flag as a kid, but all that has changed now. "When I was a kid I didn't have much connect with the national flag but now when my country's flag is flying high at the tournaments I feel proud. I want to win more medals and see my country's flag high at all the events and salute it with pride," Nikhat said at the felicitation event.
The 26-year-old, only the second Indian woman to win back-to-back world titles in boxing said that she is working hard to improve. "I am grateful for the unwavering support the corporation, who not only believed in my potential but also invested in my dreams. I want to win gold at the forthcoming
Asian Games and the Olympics," she said.
Traversing down the memory lane Nikhat said, "One day when I was at the ground, I watched some boys practicing boxing. When I asked my father why there were no girls there, he replied that girls can do boxing but our society thinks they are not strong enough. Then I convinced my father that I was strong enough to take up boxing. It was how my journey started."
Lauding Nikhat's feat, NMDC, CMD Amitava Mukherjee said, "Every punch Nikhat lands, the whole country celebrates in delight. We were beaming with pride when our brand ambassador asserted her supremacy at the World Boxing Championships."
