Hyderabad: N Thakur

Tilak

Varma was one of the four Hyderabad players who had something to cheer about the IPL mega auction. The southpaw was bagged by five-time champions Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.7 crore on Sunday.
CV Milind, Rahul Buddhi and Bhagath Verma were the other Hyderabadis to be picked up from a total of 15 that entered the auction. Left-arm pacer Milind, the most successful bowler in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), went to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Rs 25 lakh. Rahul was picked up by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 20 lakh and Bhagath Verma by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 20 lakh.
Tilak saw frenetic bidding by Sunrisers Hyderabad till the Rs 65-lakh mark but MI had the last laugh, “I can’t express my feelings right now. I’m really happy and eagerly looking forward to join the Mumbai,” Tilak told TOI.
The 19-year-old, who is currently in Cuttack preparing for the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy Elite Group E opener against Chandigarh starting on February 17, said he was confident of being picked up after attending the trials ahead of the auction. “Except for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, who did not conduct selections, I attended the trials of all the IPL teams ahead of the auction and performed reasonably well. So, selection was not a surprise but to be frank, I was expecting something in the range of Rs 50-60 lakh. Going for Rs 1.7 crore and that too to Mumbai Indians was a big surprise,” he added.
Players like Tanmay Agarwal, the top scorer in SMAT, and GH Vihari, Tanay Thyagarajan, B Sandeep,

Yudhvir Charak

, Kartikeya Kak, Chinntla Readdi, Manish Reddy, Ajay Dev Goud, Mickil Jaiswal Mohammed Afridi were unsold.
