Hyderabad police officer, 5 constables suspended after Dalit woman alleges torture

HYDERABAD: Detective Inspector A Ramireddy and five police constables from Shadnagar police station in Hyderabad were suspended after an incident involving the confinement and torture of a Dalit woman came to light.

The action follows an official release from the Cyberabad police on Monday.

The woman, 34, claimed she was picked up by Ramireddy and his team around ten days ago and taken to the police station at night. At the police station, she was allegedly stripped, forced to wear knickers, and beaten severely to coerce a confession for a theft reported a few days earlier.

"In continuation of departmental action, these staff have been placed under suspension. Further departmental action will follow," the official release from Cyberabad police said.
