On October 1, Farooq Ahmed Baig, 47, director of a travel services company, lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police stating that he had checked into a star hotel in Banjara Hills on September 24 for two-day stay, but had to check out on September 25 as the hotel was unable to provide service due to the stay of Indian cricket team and several VIPs at the hotel.

While checking out of the hotel, Baig noticed that a diamond bracelet, a diamond ring, mangalsutra, gold chain and diamond earrings of his wife went missing. The complainant immediately informed the hotel staff about the missing items and checked into another hotel on Raj Bhavan Road.
Subsequently, he moved to another hotel near CM's camp office and lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police about the missing items on October.

On Tuesday, the FIR was transferred to Banjara Hills police. Cops went to the star hotel with the details of the missing jewellery items and verified the lost items in the custody of the hotel. "We have found a box in the custody of the hotel with the jewellery reported missing by Farooq. We took possession of the items and informed the complainant," Banjara Hills DI Md Hafeezuddin said.
"While leaving the hotel on September 25, the complainant and his wife stood near the phone stand on the fourth floor for a minute and, while searching for some items from a bag, they removed the jewellery box and kept it on the phone stand. While leaving, they forgot to pick it up. Later, the hotel staff noticed it and kept it in their safe custody," the DI said.
