Hyderabad: Man held for impregnating teen, abetting her suicide

HYDERABAD: Nacharam police arrested a 28-year-old man on Friday for abetting the suicide of a 19-year-old girl after sexually assaulting and impregnating her. According to police, the accused has been identified as D Mahendar, a labourer.Police said that Mahendar allegedly befriended the girl, promising to marry her, and then sexually exploited her. She subsequently became pregnant. She later found out that Mahendar was already married and had three children. When she confronted him about the alleged deception, Mahendar distanced himself from her and allegedly provoked her into taking her own life. The teenager slipped into depression. On Wednesday, she took her own life.The police said that the accused already had a criminal history involving an NDPS case. Following a complaint by her family, Mahendar was arrested and produced before magistrate, charged with abetting suicide and sexual abuse. He was remanded in custody.
