Hyderabad: Man arrested for taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh

HYDERABAD: ACB sleuths arrested an ex-assistant superintendent of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant.
The accused official is G K Sampath Kumar, ex-assistant superintendent, SCCL, Kothagudem. In Juune 2018, Sampath Kumar demanded and accepted Rs 1 lakh bribe from A Prakash Rao, an employee of SCCL, to get him declared as medically unfit in order to enable his legal heir to seek compassionate appointment in SCCL.
Subsequently, the complainant’s son got compassionate appointment in SCCL and Sampath Kumar started demanding for additional bribe amount from the complainant.

Meanwhile, Prakash Rao got to know that his son got job on genuine grounds and not because of Sampath Kumar’s intervention. He lodged a complaint with ACB.
Sampath was earlier booked by the ACB in 2015 for collection of money from Singareni workers transfer of postings. For his corrupt practices, SCCL management terminated him from service in December 2018. On Wednesday, ACB arrested Sampath and produced him before the court in Hyderabad. Sampath was sent in judicial remand. After the arrest, ACB also conducted searches at the house of the accused and his relative’s houses in Kothagudem and seized some incriminating evidence.
