Hyderabad Literary Festival from January 26

HYDERABAD: The eighth edition of the Hyderabad Literary Festival will be held on January 26-28, 2018 at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, announced B Venkatesham, principal secretary of tourism department in a press conference held on Tuesday.


According to the press release issued by the tourism department, more than 100 authors and artists are expected to participate in the festival and the anticipated turnout of the audience is expected to be between 12,000 and 15,000. Of the total number of participants, 25-30 percent are expected to come from foreign countries.

Kannada will be the language in focus this year with more than 10 leading Kannada authors and artists expected to participate in the festival. “Sessions on literature, theatre, film and performance poetry of Karnataka and panel on the language crisis in Karnataka will be held in the festival,” read the press release.

Apart from this, tributes to legendary artists such as Girija Devi (1929- 2017), Shashi Kapoor (1938- 2017), Tom Alter (1950- 2017) and Gauri Lankesh (1962- 2017) will be given.

Spain

will be the focus country during the festival with the deputy head of mission, Embassy of Spain in India, Eduardo

and cultural attaché, Ignacio Vitórica Hamilton expected to participate in the inaugural function. “Seven leading writers from Spain shall also participate in the inaugural functions,” said Venkatesham.

The three days festival will have various sessions such as panel discussions, performances, readings, talks, conversations etc. by authors, activists, artists, filmmakers, fitness experts, legal luminaries, media celebrities, thespians among many others.

(stalwart of Indian theatre and founder of ‘Ranga Shankara’),

Prathibha Nandakumar

(feminist poet, journalist and filmmaker), Pushpamala N (avant-garde artist), Du Saraswati (Dalit artist-activist), Vanamala Viswanatha (award-winning bilingual translator) are among the key Kannada personalities participating in the festival.

Other important speakers at HLF 2018 include Aruna Roy, Perumal Murugan, Rajdeep Sardesai, Sanjna Kapoor, Sagarika Ghose, Seema Mustafa, Madabhushi Sridhar.
