Hyderabad lake tragedy: Girl slips and drowns, cousin dies trying to save her; family trip ends in heartbreak

HYDERABAD: A 10-year-old girl and her 20-year-old relative drowned in Indhira Sagar Cheruvu near Abdullapurmet on Hyderabad outskirts late on Saturday.The victims were identified as Pranitha and her relative Chintam Reddy Indhra Sena Reddy. According to Abdullapurmet police, the incident occurred when Chinapu Prathap Reddy (35), a resident of Laxmi Priya Colony, Abdullapurmet, visited a development site near the lake along with his family and relatives. While playing on a rock near the waterbody, Pranitha, studying in Class VI slipped and fell into the lake. Indhra Sena Reddy, a final-year degree student, saw the girl fall and immediately jumped in to save her. However, both of them drowned. Alerted by family members and locals, police rushed to the spot and launched a search. Their bodies were recovered from the lake on Sunday. Based on a complaint, a case was registered.
